Taxably's assistant runs on the computer where Taxably Connect is installed. Connect it to the Claude desktop app there and ask, in plain English, which clients are still missing a K-1 or what a client sent in March. It answers from the records Taxably keeps on that computer.

The useful part of connecting an assistant to tax records is not what it can do. It is what it cannot.
What it can do
Look things up for your built clients, and suggest what to do next.
- Answer questions about the clients you have built a prep sheet for: what is missing, who is ready, what needs a look
- Tell you which documents came in for a household and what is still open
- Show your connected folders and whether their prep is in progress
- Suggest an answer to a question, a note, a link between a person and a business, a rebuild or an export, for you to approve in Taxably
- Answer in the Claude chat you already use, with the Taxably window closed
What it cannot do
Taxably enforces these. They are not left to the assistant's good behaviour.
- Change anything without your approval: a suggestion waits in Taxably until you approve it
- Change a tax figure or a source document
- See a full tax identification number, ever
- Answer about a client whose prep sheet you have not built
- Open other files on your computer
- Reach another firm's records, under any circumstances
Taxably may read a hundred client folders, but the assistant is only ever told about the clients whose prep sheet you actually built. Build eight sheets and it knows about eight clients.
It runs on your computer, not in your account.
Claude starts the connection itself, so the Taxably window does not need to be open. Taxably must stay installed on that computer, and the answers come from the prep sheets built so far.
Answers about a client can include the client's name, and what Claude is told reaches the company that runs it, under that company's terms. A tax ID only ever shows its last four digits. Every question the assistant asks is recorded on the computer where Taxably Connect runs.

In Taxably Connect, open Settings, then Your AI assistant, and press Connect to Claude Desktop. Restart the Claude desktop app and ask it about a client.

Another assistant that runs on the same computer can be set up from the same screen, which shows the steps for it.

Open Your AI assistant
On the computer where Taxably Connect is installed, open Taxably Connect and go to Settings, then Your AI assistant.
Connect to Claude Desktop
If the Claude desktop app is installed on that computer, press Connect to Claude Desktop. Taxably adds itself to Claude's list of tools.
Restart Claude and ask
Restart the Claude desktop app, then ask it about a client you have built. There is no address to copy and no account to sign in to.
Changed your mind? On the same screen, press Disconnect and Claude stops being able to ask Taxably about your clients.
